💡 Adjectives - Describing words!

Adjectives describe nouns (people, animals, things, places). They tell us what something is like.

Adjectives go BEFORE the noun: a cold place, a bold penguin, a short nap. Or AFTER "is/are": The place is cold. Penguins are bold.

Comparative (-er)

Compares TWO things. Add -er. Use than.

small → smaller
big → bigger
tall → taller
short → shorter
fast → faster
loud → louder
happy → happier
dirty → dirtier
The baby penguin is smaller than the adult penguin.
Superlative (-est)

Compares THREE+ things. Add -est. Use the.

small → the smallest
big → the biggest
tall → the tallest
short → the shortest
fast → the fastest
bold → the boldest
happy → the happiest
dirty → the dirtiest
The emperor penguin is the boldest penguin in the group.

Sequence Words - Order of events!

Sequence words tell us WHEN something happens and in what ORDER.

The scientists watched the penguins to see if they were sleeping. Then, they filmed the penguins all day and all night to see how long their eyes were shut. The team found that the penguins had thousands of naps a day. All of those mini sleeps added up to 11 hours of sleep a day.
